Phase 3: Proposal
During the Proposal phase, your class will create a persuasive Written Proposal and Action Budget, rooted in the original research your class conducted during Phase 2. Your class will also design a live presentation for your school board, asking the board for permission to take specific actions to help the school become more resilient to climate change. The length of this phase varies depending on the extent you choose to integrate the program into your other curriculum.

Objectives
- Complete a Written Proposal and Action Budget (1-2 classes)
- Submit a comprehensive Written Proposal and Action Budget to your school board and WT Teaching Assistant at least one week before your School Board presentation (3-5 classes)
- Design and deliver a live presentation of your proposal to the school board before the first Friday in April (2-3 classes)
Scope and Sequence
Below you will find suggestions for how to facilitate this phase of the program. Remember, your WT Teaching Assistant will be with you at every step! All of the resources and forms mentioned are located on the Student Website, linked above.
- Brainstorm in small groups a list of actions you think your class can take between now and the end of the school year to improve your school’s resilience to climate change. Make sure your brainstorm is informed by your understanding of the five Core Concepts of Climate Change and what you learned from your research. Share your best ideas with your entire class. Then decide as a whole group which actions are feasible and desirable.
- Using the Written Proposal Rubric, review what makes an exemplary proposal and support your class in following it as they turn their action plan into a written document. Create subgroups to lead the development of the various parts of the Written Proposal and Action Budget.
- Get your class on the school board’s agenda to present your proposal at least a month ahead of time. Aim to make your presentation no later than the last Friday in April.
- Submit your written proposal to the school board and your WT Teaching Assistant at least one week before you are scheduled to make a live presentation. Then, begin to prepare your presentation for the school board. Prepare, rehearse, and rehearse again!
- Present to School Board with your WT Teaching Assistant present.
